What Ingredients You’ll Need

  • All-purpose flour (for structure)
  • Baking soda (to help the cookies rise)
  • Salt (to balance the sweetness)
  • Butter (softened, for a rich and tender texture)
  • Granulated sugar and brown sugar (for sweetness and chewiness)
  • Eggs (to bind the dough)
  • Vanilla extract (to enhance the flavor)

Mix-ins (choose your favorites):

  • Chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk, or white)
  • Candy-coated chocolates (Valentine’s-themed for a festive touch)
  • Mini pretzels (for a salty crunch)
  • Toffee bits (for caramel flavor)
  • Valentine’s sprinkles (for color and fun)

Optional additions: Chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or crushed cookies for even more texture and flavor.

How to Make Valentine’s Kitchen Sink Cookies

  1. Prepare the dough:
    • Cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  3. Add the mix-ins:
    • Gently fold in your chosen mix-ins, ensuring they’re evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  4. Scoop and bake:
    • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them apart. Bake until the edges are golden and the centers are just set.
  5. Cool and enjoy:
    • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.

Pro Tips for Perfect Kitchen Sink Cookies

  1. Balance Sweet and Salty:
    • Combine sweet ingredients like chocolate and candies with salty ones like pretzels or nuts for the best flavor contrast.
  2. Chill the Dough:
    • Chilled dough bakes into thicker, chewier cookies and prevents overspreading.
  3. Don’t Overmix:
    • Mix just until the dry ingredients are incorporated to keep the cookies tender.
  4. Customize the Size:
    • Make smaller cookies for a crowd or jumbo-sized ones for a fun Valentine’s gift.
  5. Serve with Love:
    • Package these cookies in heart-shaped boxes or tie them with ribbon for a sweet Valentine’s surprise.
  6. How to make dark brown sugar:
    • Add two tablespoons of molasses per one cup of light brown sugar.

Storage Information

  • At room temperature: Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
  • In the refrigerator: Keep them in a sealed container for up to 1 week. Let them come to room temperature before serving.
  • In the freezer: Freeze the cookie dough or baked cookies in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw or bake directly from frozen as needed.
