Ingredients You Will Need:

  • German Chocolate Cake Mix: The base of these cookies brings the iconic flavor of German chocolate cake right into your cookies.
  • Unsalted Butter (softened): Ensures a rich, chewy cookie texture.
  • Eggs: Helps bind everything together and provide a soft, moist cookie.
  • Vanilla Extract: Adds warmth and enhances the overall flavor.
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: For that extra chocolatey goodness.
  • Sweetened Shredded Coconut: A key ingredient in traditional German chocolate cake, adding sweetness and texture.
  • Pecans: For a delightful crunch and that classic German chocolate cake topping.

How I Made the German Chocolate Cake Cookies:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the German chocolate cake mix, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Fold in the chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  4. Scoop spoonfuls of dough and roll them into balls, placing them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers are set but soft.
  6. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Add the premade coconut pecan frosting; you can also use the homemade recipe that we used in the full recipe version of this cookie

Pro Tips:

  1. Chill the Dough: If the dough is too sticky to work with, chill it in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes. This will make it easier to roll the dough into balls and help the cookies hold their shape while baking.
  2. Don’t Overbake: These cookies should be soft and chewy. Remove them from the oven when the edges are golden, but the centers are still soft. They will continue to cook slightly as they cool.
  3. Use Fresh Ingredients: To get the best flavor and texture, ensure your ingredients, like the butter and eggs, are fresh. This will ensure the cookies have the perfect chewy texture and rich flavor.
  4. Add Extra Coconut and Pecans: For an even more indulgent treat, add a little extra shredded coconut and chopped pecans on top of the dough balls before baking.

Storage:

To keep your German Chocolate Cookies fresh:

  • Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the baked cookies for up to 3 months. Place them in a freezer-safe container, separating layers with parchment paper to avoid sticking.
  • Cookie Dough: Freeze the dough in balls and bake directly from the freezer, adding a couple of extra minutes to the baking time for a fresh-baked cookie whenever desired.
