How I Made These German Chocolate Cake Cookies:

Step 1: Prepare the Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  1. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until thoroughly combined.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  3. Gradually add the dry and wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  1. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set, but the centers still look slightly soft.
  1. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Coconut-Pecan Frosting

  1. Combine evaporated milk, brown sugar, butter, and egg yolks in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  1. Stir constantly and cook until the mixture thickens about 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans.
  3. Let the frosting cool slightly before spreading onto the cooled cookies.

Assemble & Enjoy!

  1. Once cookies are completely cooled, spoon a small amount of coconut-pecan frosting on top of each cookie.
  2. Let the frosting set for about 10 minutes.
  3. Optional: Drizzle with melted chocolate for an extra decadent touch.
  4. Serve and enjoy!
