Pro Tips for Perfect Strawberry Crunch Topping

  1. Customize the Texture:
    • Don’t crush the cookies into fine crumbs. You want to leave some larger chunks for extra crunch.
  2. Experiment with Flavors:
    • Mix in crushed freeze-dried raspberries or blueberries for a different fruity twist.
  3. Enhance the Color:
    • Add a small pinch of pink or red food coloring for an even more vibrant look.
    • For an extra Strawberry taste, add a 1/2 teaspoon of strawberry extract.
  4. Toast the Topping:
    • Lightly toast the topping in the oven for 5–7 minutes at 350°F for a nuttier, deeper flavor.
  5. Double the Batch:
    • Make a larger batch and store it for quick use on all your desserts throughout the week.

Storage Information

  • At room temperature: Store the topping in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
  • In the refrigerator: Keep it in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks to maintain freshness.
  • In the freezer: Freeze the topping in a resealable freezer bag for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before using.

FAQ: Strawberry Crunch Topping

1. Can I use graham crackers instead of cookies?
Yes! Crushed graham crackers work well, though the flavor will be less buttery.

2. What if I can’t find freeze-dried strawberries?
You can use strawberry gelatin mix as an alternative for both flavor and color.

3. Can I make this topping dairy-free?
Absolutely! Use a dairy-free butter substitute to make the recipe suitable for dairy-free diets.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.

  1. Crush the cookies either in a food processor and pulse until they’re crumbled, or put them in a zip-lock bag and use a rolling pin to crumble them. Either way, be careful; they shouldn’t be too small or the same size.

  1. Melt the butter and add it to the cookie crumbs, blending until all the crumbs are moist. Transfer about half of the crumbs to another bowl.

  1. Add the strawberry jello to half the crumbs and blend until almost all the crumbs are red. Add the other half of the crumbs into the bowl and toss lightly to mix. You don't want all the crumbs to be red.

  1. Spread the crumbs on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make a thin layer.

  1. Bake at 350 F for 8 minutes. Remove the crumbs from the oven and let it cool. If a solid layer has formed, crumble it with your hands and transfer it to an airtight container.
